Shopping with Larissa P. was a delightful and unexpected experience. That evening, I was preparing to conclude a tour of the Saks Fifth Avenue store in Beverly Hills when Larissa approached me urgently, requesting my assistance in selecting an outfit for an upcoming TV appearance. She wanted to make a stunning impression and instinctively turned to me, trusting that I would find the perfect look for her. It was both exhilarating and flattering that she chose me based on my reputation alone.
At that time, many of the pieces on the third floor bore prominent logos, which are often less desirable for television appearances due to their overt branding. We moved from floor to floor, and as I provided insights about each level and gathered more details about her TV appearance, Larissa remarked, "People hate you here, don’t they?" It was an amusing observation, and although my clients adore me, I am acutely aware that high-profile individuals like myself sometimes face undeserved animosity.
I was touched by her comment, as it highlighted her appreciation for my aesthetic, even though I felt somewhat disheveled that day. My schedule had been demanding, and despite wearing a chic Elle Tahari jumpsuit, Manolos, and sporting a curly bun, I was naturally barefaced and unadorned. We explored various options, and I pulled a selection of exquisite pieces: a pink Ferragamo set, a two-piece Amiri ensemble, and some striking D&G denim. To my surprise, the jeans were designed by Kim Kardashian—a detail I had momentarily forgotten. Larissa was enamored with them, and upon learning their origin, I felt a pang of embarrassment for not recalling the designer collaboration sooner. Nonetheless, I urged her to consider the denim, believing it would be a bold and positive statement.
Larissa pondered the idea, concerned about potential controversy, though I believed the jeans would have made a fantastic impression. As we concluded our discussion, Michael Jordan Jr. arrived, and his presence seemed like a fortuitous opportunity for further input. He was incredibly gracious, and I thought, what a splendid Thursday this had turned out to be.
Larissa and I exchanged contact information and planned to reconvene for another appointment. The experience was truly memorable, and the thought of her wearing those jeans still lingers with me.
It raises a profound question: how liberating would life be if we disregarded the opinions of others and followed our own instincts? Are we true to ourselves when we weigh others' judgments, or do we compromise our authenticity to avoid criticism? It’s a contemplation that resonates deeply.
