The Fashion industry isn't always so pretty! I have been in the Fashion industry for over 15 years sitting at Fashion Week since my teenage years till now and I love every min. of it. It brings me great joy to wear clothes that express what and who I want to reflex at that time. My looks are always telling a story, style is non-verbal communication. Among all the good comes the bad as well. I aways called things I didn't like "Trash" I would even call bad basketball players trash as well. Taking out the trash is always a good way of saying out with old in with the new. In Fashion a lot of "GHETTO TRASH" goes on and year 5 welcomed me with much of it. So popular designers Balenciaga Demnah to exact most've somehow in some way saw my "Noir & Blanc" collection dropped for Black Friday! Literally, every collection I ever dropped sells out and this one was no different. I tell stories through my work so this was no different the first theme of the shoot was Me trying on clothes for my man and him voting on the looks. I had Jada Lynn fly in from NY for this shoot, Terry who is my favorite local male model and we did a set of black and white looks which can be located in our LOOKBOOK.
The second part of the shoot was directly related to a petty disagreement I was having with someone and the term "Ghetto Trash" was used. I thought it was brilliant because I thought that what they were doing and how they were acting towards me in that moment was a direct reflection of "Ghetto Trash" so my friends and I begin pulling out trash bags like yeah let's take all this BS OUT. As my homegirl handed me the white trash bags I requested a black one as well. I had just the plan to make good use of these bags and the perfect way to tie in the shoot. On Black Friday 2021 I dropped my first REEL and released the collection that sold out the first few days. I only do limited pieces because thats my style and once the pieces are gone I don't restock.
NOTHING ABOUT WHAT I DO IS FAST FASHION . . . .
I felt like "Ghetto Trash" was the perfect way to some up 2021 and 2020's BS for that matter but I was in for an even bigger surprise. Months after releasing the shoot I was in the airport heading to a Neiman Marcus interview in ATL and I see trash bags on the Pairs Fashion Week Runway! I literally stood in the same spot for about 30 mins in complete SHOCK ! At this time, I was also interviewing with Balenciaga. I had been actively speaking to the store manager Anna in ATL about a position as well. As a stylist sometimes I get high end fashion jobs in different states to meet new people and continue building my brand. I was like "What the fuck is this" Literally couldn't believe my eyes! The literally stole my whole concept from my shoot! I think its so mind blowing how literally the details of the snow and the trash bag concept was completely stolen. I really felt no other words that shocked, anyone with 2 eyes can see that this is the exact same idea and its actually really sad how they have to steal from small designers and stylist to know whats going on! They wont hire us but will use the drip because their buyers want dope shit and that all I know how to produce. This "GHETTO TRASH" will always be apart of my story! I would never in a million years believe this was a coincidence or that Demna was "Inspired by the Ukrainian people who were leaving their houses with trash bags" I watched the war daily still no images of Ukrainians with trash bags in the snow! Dope save, but NAH-
I will continue to stay authentic in my work and let the copy caps copy! So many people admire what I do they start get into it... I love to see it but when you see my work you will know the difference between me and an KNOCKOFF. So my passion will always override anything else! Thankful for a safe place to share my journey because we all know the journey is the best part :)
